Trust Service Providers (TSPs) and their relationship with advanced electronic document signatures

TSPs are a central part of the electronic signature process

In legally recognized contexts, TSPs fulfill two functions:

  • 1. Issue electronic signature certificates. Without these, the generated signature cannot be considered advanced or reliable.
  • 2. Preservation certificates. Kill two birds with one stone: provide a presumption of document integrity and meet the tax and asset forfeiture law requirements for a "certain date."

Accreditation by the Ministry of Economy or Banxico

The Ministry of Economy and the Bank of Mexico are the main authorities that accredit certifiers. The SAT is authorized by Banxico to issue certificates for individuals.

Operating a digital signature platform does not require being a TSP…

…but it does support certificates and obtain preservation certificates from an accredited TSP for each purpose. Mifiel is not a TSP, but it exclusively supports SAT certificates and obtains its NOM-151 certificates from a TSP duly accredited by the Ministry of Economy.Find more information about Trust Service Providers on our blog
